Happy Fantastic New Super Year

it's the last day of 2009 and i've been thinking back on some the experiences that have come past in the last 365 days. like everyone else, i've had my share of up and downs. and at some points in the last few months, it felt like the downs were coming in large pairs. what kind of drama you may ask? well, our apartment was burglarized, for one. but this blog isn't about any losses or disappointments. it really has been a great year. through the year i've met with friends who i had not seen in years, spent priceless time with family, and even feel like i've learned a thing or two about being me as an artist. blah blah blah blah, who really wants to know all this?!

but seriously, it's been a great year. the new Deseo website is live and running. i want to thank Laz at the Lazarus Group (lazarusgroup.com) for all his help to make this site happen. my girlfriend, my family, co-workers, and all close friends that i don't get to see or talk to all that often. thanks for allowing me to be part of your lives!

although there's a lot of new work that's been posted on the new website, i still have more on the way. this is a sneeeak of something that's still in the works.

happy new years, yo!

90 Days Around the World

this blog has been bit over due. seems like the last two months have just been roller coaster full of ups and downs! but everything is all good and i have more things to show in the near future.

this a design i created for Methods NYC clothing. their theme this winter season is "90 Days Around the World". i had fun drawing it out. i normally don't ink, but being that final image is intended to have very little color, i did. in order for the lines to stay crisp. i took inspiration from Robert Crumb's comic work for the lines. because the concept is sexy and the little animals added a degree of cuteness, i thought some gritty line work would give it some nice contrast.

so yesterday i left work 3 hours early to finish off the rest of the paintings that needed to be framed and packaged for the show at
Gallery 1988 . my girlfriend had helped me for about 4 hours the day before, and yesterday it took us about another 5 to finish. i had no idea that it would take so long and without her help i think i woulda gone a bit crazy, trying to get them shipped out by today. not to mention that once we were done framing, we could not find any boxes large enough to ship the center piece. so we improvised with a box we had to cut and reshape in order for the piece to fit. here's a preview of one of the paintings for the art show as it was in progress.

i'm really looking forward to seeing the art work for the show once it's posted online. it's my first group show and i'm excited about both, the venue and the other artists in the show.

hssssss!!

here's a sketch i did today. well, part of it actually. the girl i drew a couple of days ago and it was just sitting around my desk. so today i happen to come across it and kept adding doodles to it. i liked it cause of the facial and body expression on the girl, it was kind of funny. it's not too coherent of a drawing, but i thought i'd share.

recent Sketch and Animation for Shakespear Festival

i feel like i really haven't been doing a good job at keeping my artwork updated online. and not just the artwork that i'm creating, but some of the projects that i'm involved in or news regarding my art...

so this is a sketch i just finished a few minutes ago. when i have some time i'd like to do some further work on it.

and on a side note, here's an animation i worked on for the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival in Kansas City. i've been playing around a bit with After Effects, but this was the first animation project i've done for a client. the animation had to meet certain criteria for promoting the event, so i had to follow a few suggestions they had made. the animation is made of photographs and drawings that i did. the soundtrack was added by my friend Leslie.

Afro Samurai wallpaper

a few months back i did this illustration for fun. i liked all the character design work that was done for Afro Samurai Resurrection, so i thought i'd do my own version of the characters. click on the image to get a wallpaper sized image.
